Hiking & Picnic Hangz

A low-pressure morning of gentle hangz for ND adults + allies at Berrima River Walk

For Neurodivergent Adults Who Are Looking to Connect

Hiking & Picnic Hangz is a relaxed, ND-friendly outdoor catch-up for neurodivergent adults and the people who support them. We’ll take a gentle walk together, with plenty of pauses and “do your own thing” moments — then settle in for a picnic.

No pressure to keep up, talk the whole time, or be “on.” You can walk alongside someone, wander quietly, or take breaks whenever you need.

What You'll Experience

Start Gentle

Arrive, take a breath, and settle in. We’ll meet in a calm spot, with friendly faces and a simple run-through of what’s happening. You’re welcome to hang back, ask questions, or ease in quietly — there’s no rush and no expectation to jump straight in.

Chill & Connect

Once you’re ready, join the gentle walk in whatever way feels right — walk with the group, drift at the back, pause for a breather, or meet us at the picnic spot. Side-by-side chats are welcome, and so is comfortable silence. No fitness pressure, no “keeping up” — just a relaxed outdoor Hangz at your pace.

Your Comfort, Your Call

You might make a new friend, share a quiet moment, or simply enjoy the fresh air and nature. Need a break? Take it. Want headphones, fidgets, stimming, pacing, or some space? Absolutely welcome. This is your time, your body, your way of being.

Kids are welcome too — they can join for free with parent/guardian supervision.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We understand the importance of clarity and are here to provide answers to your most common queries.

What are Neuro Awesome events?

Neuro Awesome events are safe, low-pressure gatherings designed by and for neurodivergent people (and allies). They’re about building connection, friendship, and community in ways that feel comfortable and authentic.

Who can come?

Our events are open to neurodivergent adults of all ages and experiences, as well as allies who respect our values of inclusion, consent, and safety.

Do I have to join in all the activities?

Not at all. 💜 Our events are self-paced. You choose what feels right for you — whether that’s joining a game, having a chat, or simply relaxing in a quiet space.

What if I feel anxious or need a break?

We’ve got you. Every event has quiet zones and sensory-considerate spaces where you can step away and recharge. Our facilitators are always nearby if you’d like support.

Is this a dating event?

Neuro Awesome began with the idea of helping neurodivergent people find love, and that’s still part of our journey. But our events are broader than dating — they’re about connection in all forms: friendship, community, and belonging.

What about consent and safety?

Consent and safety are at the heart of everything we do. You’re always in control of your experience: no one will pressure you to share, participate, or connect in ways that don’t feel right. Respectful behaviour is expected from all participants.

Do I need to bring anything?

Just yourself! For some events you might want to bring water, a hat, or sunscreen if outdoors. We’ll include any special notes in your event confirmation.

How much do tickets cost?

Ticket prices vary depending on the event. We keep costs as low as possible thanks to our volunteers and sponsors, and your ticket goes directly toward making our events safe and accessible.

Can I come if I don’t know anyone?

Yes! Many people come on their own, and our facilitators are there to help with introductions and icebreakers. You’ll never be left out.

How are events supported?

Neuro Awesome is powered by volunteers, local businesses, and community sponsors. We’re grateful to partners like The Robertson Hotel, Growwild Wildflower Farm, The Fold Southern Highlands, and others who believe in building inclusion.
