For Neurodivergent Adults Who Are Looking to Connect
Led by Southern Highlands musician Dave Johnson, this session will include folk-inspired music, singing, simple rhythm, playful character hats, and a welcoming mix of listening, joining in and observing.
We’ll have instruments available, including fiddle, guitars and concertina, and you are welcome to bring your own instrument or voice on the day.
You can sing, play, tap along, listen, watch, rest, ask questions or simply enjoy being around music. There is no need to perform, be confident, read music or know what you are doing before you arrive.
Weather permitting, we may also head outside to the oval for part of the session.
For those who prefer to observe, there will be comfy beanbags and space to simply be present without having to join in.
You are welcome to bring your own drinks and snacks.
Sunday 19 Jul | 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM | Welby Community Hall

Start Gentle
Arrive, settle in and take a moment to land.
You’ll be welcomed into the space at Welby Community Hall, where you can choose how close you want to be to the music, whether you want to join in straight away, or whether you’d rather observe first.
There will be comfy beanbags available for anyone who wants to sit back, listen or simply be in the room.
Choose Your Sound
Once you’ve settled in, you can choose what feels right for you.
You might sing, tap along, try a guitar, listen to the fiddle, explore the concertina, bring your own instrument, or simply enjoy the sound around you.
You are also welcome to choose a hat and take on a character for the Hangz — or bring your own hat if that feels fun.
There is no “right” way to take part.
Your Comfort, Your Call
You can participate as much or as little as you like.
Need to take a break? Take one.
Want to sit quietly? Completely okay.
Prefer to watch before joining in? Welcome.
Want to bring snacks, drinks or your own instrument? Go for it.
Weather permitting, we may head outside to the oval for part of the session.
This is your time, your body, your way of being — all of it belongs here.

Neuro Awesome events are safe, low-pressure gatherings designed by and for neurodivergent people (and allies). They’re about building connection, friendship, and community in ways that feel comfortable and authentic.
Our events are open to neurodivergent adults of all ages and experiences, as well as allies who respect our values of inclusion, consent, and safety.
Not at all. 💜 Our events are self-paced. You choose what feels right for you — whether that’s joining a game, having a chat, or simply relaxing in a quiet space.
We’ve got you. Every event has quiet zones and sensory-considerate spaces where you can step away and recharge. Our facilitators are always nearby if you’d like support.
Neuro Awesome began with the idea of helping neurodivergent people find love, and that’s still part of our journey. But our events are broader than dating — they’re about connection in all forms: friendship, community, and belonging.
Consent and safety are at the heart of everything we do. You’re always in control of your experience: no one will pressure you to share, participate, or connect in ways that don’t feel right. Respectful behaviour is expected from all participants.
Just yourself! For some events you might want to bring water, a hat, or sunscreen if outdoors. We’ll include any special notes in your event confirmation.
Ticket prices vary depending on the event. We keep costs as low as possible thanks to our volunteers and sponsors, and your ticket goes directly toward making our events safe and accessible.
Yes! Many people come on their own, and our facilitators are there to help with introductions and icebreakers. You’ll never be left out.
Neuro Awesome is powered by volunteers, local businesses, and community sponsors. We’re grateful to partners like The Robertson Hotel, Growwild Wildflower Farm, The Fold Southern Highlands, and others who believe in building inclusion.
No masking required — be your authentic self
Join for music, connection, quiet company, or all three
Stimming, breaks and pacing are welcome
Side-by-side creativity that feels natural
A gentle, welcoming space for ND adults, allies, friends, family and support workers
