Become a part of the change with us

Whether you’re a facilitator, support crew, community connector, or behind-the-scenes helper — there’s a role for steady, kind humans.

This is a no-pressure expression of interest. We’ll chat next steps if it’s a fit.

Why we’re building teams across Australia

Neuro Awesome exists to reduce isolation and increase belonging — not just through events, but through community supports that make life feel more navigable.

We’re now looking for facilitators and volunteers in every state and territory to help us host Neuro Awesome Hangz and support community initiatives in your local area.

You might be a great fit if you’re…

> Patient, grounded, and good at holding calm space

> Supportive of different communication styles (quiet is welcome)

> Comfortable with clear boundaries and consent-first culture

> Someone with lived experience (ND and/or family/close ally) — or a values-aligned Professional/volunteer who gets it

> Able to support small groups in a friendly, low-pressure way

What we need from volunteers & facilitators

> You agree to uphold our Volunteer Code of Conduct and act in the best interests of participant safety and wellbeing

> You can obtain required screening checks relevant to your role (e.g. WWCC, police check, etc.)

> You respect privacy/confidentiality and keep boundaries clear

> You’re committed to inclusion, consent, and neuro-affirming practice

> You can commit to at least one shift a quarter (or monthly if facilitating)

Testimonials

As a parent,I have been connected with Neuro Awesome for six months. During this time, I have witnessed firsthand the positive impact their programs have on neurodivergent individuals.

Before joining Neuro Awesome my son struggled with severe social anxiety and isolation. However, since participating in their supervised social events,I have observed a significant transformation, specifically in:

Increased confidence in social settings and trying new things.

Parent

As a teacher, I’ve witnessed firsthand the incredible benefits of real life social connections for young adults.  Social groups like

Neuro Awesome create a nurturing environment where connection, relationships and shared interests flourish.  They actively combat loneliness by fostering new friendships within a safe space and supportive environment where participants feel comfortable being themselves.

Teacher

“I joined Neuro Awesome because I wanted friends, but I was honestly terrified of turning up to anything social. The first time I went, no one made it weird that I was quiet. I could just be there.

A few months later, I’ve got a couple of people I message outside of events, and I actually look forward to getting out of the house. It’s helped me feel more confident being myself — not a ‘perfect’ version of myself.”

Participant

“I joined Neuro Awesome because I wanted to meet people but I’ve never felt comfortable in mainstream social groups. The Dungeons & Dragons sessions have good for me to get out of the house and not be alone all the time — it’s chilled, ther are no surprises, and no one judges you for being quiet or a bit awkward which suits me. I don't get weird looks like i am used to in other environments.

I’ve made a couple of new friends and it feels easier knowing people here are on the spectrum too. I can actually be myself.”
